We are thrilled to unveil the Manchester Street Art for Public Safety project, a groundbreaking initiative spearheaded by Queerlective in collaboration with the Conservation Law Foundation and funded by the Endowment for Health's special Environmental Justice grant. This tactical urbanism pilot project is not just about transforming spaces; it's about ensuring safety, enhancing community engagement, and embodying environmental justice principles.

Transforming Corey Square and Beyond

Located next to Central High School in the vibrant Central City neighborhood of Manchester, NH, this project aims to revolutionize pedestrian safety through creative placemaking. We are set to repair and revamp a pilot crosswalk, incorporating new safety measures that are not only effective but also visually engaging.

Community at the Heart

Our approach is deeply rooted in community collaboration. We believe that the residents of Manchester, especially the students of Central High School and locals in the surrounding area, are the true custodians of these streets. Their voices and visions are crucial in shaping this project. To this end, Queerlective is organizing community gatherings and conversations, fostering a platform for dialogue and participation.

A Blend of Art, Safety, and Sustainability

Our vision is to create lively streets that are safe and inviting. Local artists will bring their talents to the forefront, turning functional safety features into captivating works of art. This not only enhances the aesthetic appeal of our streets but also promotes a strong sense of community identity and pride.

Partnerships for Progress

The project's success hinges on collaborative efforts. We are working closely with the City of Manchester to ensure compliance with safety standards. Our partnership with the Conservation Law Foundation and the support from the Endowment for Health are instrumental in making this vision a reality.

Anticipated Launch and Involvement

The anticipated implementation is set for May 2024. We invite members of the Manchester community to join us in this exciting journey. Whether it's through participating in the design process, volunteering during the implementation phase, or simply sharing your thoughts, your involvement is invaluable.

A Commitment to Environmental Justice

This project aligns with the core principles of environmental justice. We are dedicated to addressing the needs of communities historically marginalized in urban planning. Our focus extends beyond aesthetic improvements, targeting the reduction of environmental hazards and promoting equitable access to safer, healthier public spaces.
