Call for Art: "Queer Joy as an Act of Resistance"

Queerlective is thrilled to partner with Teatotaller to curate Queer Joy as an Act of Resistance, an exhibition celebrating the power of queer expression, resilience, and unapologetic joy. This show invites artists to explore the ways in which queer joy becomes a form of defiance, a radical act of self-expression, and a tool for building community in the face of adversity.
We are seeking works from local artists that embody themes of joy, celebration, identity, resistance, and liberation. Artists of all backgrounds are welcome to submit, with priority given to queer, BIPOC, and other historically marginalized voices.
Submission Guidelines
- Theme: Artwork should reflect themes of Queer Joy as an Act of Resistance.
- Mediums Accepted: Any 2D work, including painting, drawing, photography, printmaking, digital art, and mixed media.
- Size Restrictions: Due to space limitations, individual works should not exceed 36 inches in any direction.

Hanging Requirements:
- All pieces must be ready to hang with either a sawtooth hanger or wired backing (wire preferred).
- Pieces without proper hanging hardware will not be installed.
- Content Considerations: As Teatotaller is a family-friendly, all-ages, and sober space, we ask that submissions avoid explicit nudity, gore, or extreme violence. Politically charged art is welcome but should align with the goal of fostering an inclusive and engaging environment.

Sales & Commission:
- Teatotaller will process all sales through their POS system.
- Artists will receive 70% of the sale price; Teatotaller will retain 15% to cover processing fees and maintenance; Queerlective will retain 15% to support ongoing programming.
- Payouts will be issued via Venmo, check, or an agreed-upon method that will be specified upon contract signature. Contract will be sent after submissions have been approved for show.

Installation Details
- Queerlective will oversee the curation and installation of the exhibition.
- Artists should be aware that hanging hardware may need to be adjusted or installed on-site. Small holes may be made for secure hanging, but all repairs and touch-ups will be handled at the end of the exhibition.
